After your weight loss surgery, you may receive less calcium, and your body truly cannot do without calcium! Calcium is an essential nutrient that contributes to maintaining strong bones and teeth and supports the normal functioning of your muscles. Elan has specially developed Calcium Chew chewable tablets for people who have undergone weight loss surgery to supplement their daily needs. Calcium Chew contains calcium citrate, as this form of calcium is well absorbed by your body. Additionally, Vitamin D3 has been added to the Calcium Chew chewable tablets, as it enhances calcium absorption in your bones. Calcium and Vitamin D3 contribute to the maintenance of strong bones and teeth.
The required amount of calcium depends on your surgery. Based on the internationally recognized guidelines of scientific associations (ASMBS and IFSO), we recommend a daily intake of at least 1,200 – 1,500 mg of calcium. It’s also important to take a maximum of 500 mg of calcium at a time, allowing your body the opportunity and time to absorb the calcium you’ve ingested. For the best advice after your surgery and in your personal situation, we recommend contacting your healthcare provider.
Calcium is not included in the WLS products (Compass, Believe, and Supreme products) from Elan because calcium impedes the absorption of iron.
Important
If you also use WLS products from Elan, do not take the Calcium Chew chewable tablets simultaneously with your WLS products. There should be at least 2 hours between the intake of these supplements to give your body enough time to absorb iron properly.
